有谁看过《卡萨布兰卡》？这部电影是在1943年获奥斯卡奖的，至今已时日久远，人们只是传说着其中的悲伤爱情故事，并一再指出该片公映后美军攻克卡萨布兰卡市的巧合。19，20世纪之交，卡萨布兰卡在法国统治下，曾经享有“北非巴黎”的美称。摩洛哥独立多年后的今日，城市布局仍以联合国广场、穆罕默德五世广场、胜利广场等几个点为中心，宽阔的林YD呈辐射状向外发散，连成网络，颇有些巴黎的恢宏气度。“卡萨布兰卡”是西班牙语，casa意为“房屋”，blanca是“白色”，连起来就是“白房子”的意思。由于“卡萨布兰卡”实在响亮，知道城市原名“达尔贝达”(Dar el Beida)的人反倒不多了。
